So you like Orthodox knick-knacks. But I’m guessing their views on the ordination of women, married bishops and the openly gay in the clergy probably aren’t as much to your liking.
This collecting religiouslys pseudo-profound kitsch is one of the many signs of Mainline Protestantism’s desperation to appear “relevant”.

Let it be known, whoever might read this, that I love kitsch. Seriously, who doesn’t? It’s far easier than being sincere. ( although perhaps just as easy as leaving “ring and run” comments on a small-time personal blog.)
Seriously, though… Count me among those who don’t necessarily think you have to accept all forms or expressions of a tradition while still being able to learn something from them. But beyond that, rope-making for me is a deeply personal experience, something that has helped me reclaim and rediscover the value of prayer. Whether mainline Protestantism looks “relevant” or not can be someone else’s concern.
